Reality Television 2008 Top Ten in Entertainment

1. Celtics winning 2008 NBA Finals

The Celtics pulled it together after a disastrous 2007 by winning their 17th NBA Title!  Most key in this is that their last title was in 1986, 22 long years ago!  The disaster of the prior season also sweetened the victory after the Celtics had an 18 game losing streak and posted a horrific record of 24 wins and 58 losses in their prior season.

phelps2. Michael Phelps and the 2008 Beijing Olympics

Michael Phelps won 8 Gold Medals in the Olympics and now has to world record for most Gold Medals.  Usain Bolt destroyed all comers!  And despite obvious cheating by the Chinese women’s gymnastics team, the American Team including Shawn Johnson and Nastia Liukin took the most medals.  A disastrous pair of miscues by Alicia Sacramone led to a loss in the overall, but this team was possibly the best in US history.

3. Tina Fey!

We hope Tina sent Sarah Palin a huge Thank You card for providing her the perfect role to play on Saturday Night Live.  Tina didn’t even have to write the script, she pretty much used Sarah’s dialogue verbatim and had people in hysterics.

4. Batman, The Dark Knight

There have been many attempts to market the Batman story, but this latest series has the world captivated.  The difference a realistic feel to the characters and an actual fear of the villains.  Heath Ledger death accentuated his role as the Joker, which demonstrated that even in a comic book role, Heath was a blockbuster star.

5. Iron Man

While we did not want to have two movies in the top 10, we could not find any way to eliminate this gargantuan effort by Marvel.  Robert Downey Junior emerged in this movie to remind us of his diversity and wit despite a somewhat questionable past.  In fact, Robert’s bad boy antics enhanced his appeal in this leading role.

6. Barack Obama Victory Speech (Yes We Can!)

Obama won in grand style and gave an inspiring speech to America.  Almost every American heard this speech and even those that did not vote for Obama were moved.

7. David Cook Wins American Idol

Despite the judges insinuations to the contrary the week before, David Cook won American Idol easily with his unique approach to Rock.  This performance demonstrates an amazing ability to resurrect a performance of old and make it new and fresh.

8. Leona Lewis Bleeding Love Top Selling Hit of 2008

Leona was selected Billboard’s top new artist of 2008. She topped off 2008 with the number one selling single, Bleeding Love.

9. Mercy (Katee and Twitch)

We had to include this performance because it is the most striking dance performance we have seen.  The hypnotic music of Duffy, singing the classic “Mercy”  with a dance choreographed by Emmy Award Winner Mia Michaels places this solidly in the top 10 entertainment moments of 2008 and put Twitch on the map.

wii10. Wii

The Wii was available in 2007, but it took hold in 2008 to become the leading gaming system.  As people slowly forgot about the XBOX and Sony Playstation, they were getting in line to pay retail for this gaming wonder that demonstrated Nintendo is no pushover.

The Manhunt is on. A&E Premieres New Original Real-life Series, Manhunters: Fugitive Task Force

Manhunters: Fugitive Task Force on A&E Network. This show is a tad different from what we normally follow as a reality television show.  It is similar to  America’s Most Wanted, but with more of a raw edge and the thrill of the hunt.  We discovered the show as we searched for new material to cover on and felt it introduces a new and gripping reality experience.

The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, elite agents of the NY/NJ Division in the heart of New York City, the most active unit in the country, go live to track down a different dangerous felon in each episode.

The half-hour series debuting tonight, Tuesday, December 9th at 10PM ET/PT covers twenty-one “high-stakes, heart-pounding real-life” stories including: “the Marshals on the hunt for an alleged former member of the “Jamaican Shower Posse,” a Brooklyn gang renowned for showering their enemies with bullets; a female bank robber who made her hit on Valentine’s Day; and an alleged elite member of the infamous Columbian drug cartel; one of the largest and most notorious drug organizations in the world.”

The Task Force

From the A&E press release:

The Task Force includes Commander Lenny DePaul. Lenny joined the U.S. Marshals Service in 1989 and has been in the fugitive program since 1991. A former member of the Navy’s elite amphibious assault group, he also spent five years with the Secret Service serving in the Reagan White House. Deputized U.S. Marshal Tommy Kilbride, a 17-year veteran of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency, and a supervisor with their Detention and Removal Operations (DRO) unit). Deputy U.S. Marshal Michelle ‘Michy’ Mendez. Michy was recruited by the U.S. Marshals Service while an undergraduate, studying criminal justice. Deputized U.S.

Marshal Roxanne Lopez. Roxanne, a detective with the Spring Valley, NY Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit, joined the Task Force in 2003. Detective and deputized U.S. Marshal Rasheen ‘Pep’ Peppers. Born and raised in Newark, NJ Rasheen has been with the Newark Police Department for 12 1/2 years. Deputized U.S. Marshal Federico Merced. For the past 15 years Federico has been an investigator with the NY State Inspector General’s Escape and Abscond Unit. He joined the Task Force three months ago and is the newest member of the team. Vinny Senzamici, a deputized U.S. Marshal, and senior parole officer with the NY State Division of Parole. Vinny, who is known for his “hard nose” investigative style, joined the Task Force in 2002. And Deputy U.S. Marshal Mike Romani. A 15 year veteran of law enforcement, Mike has been with the Marshals service since 1998.

They are the best of the best, hunting down the worst of the worst…. everyone from the DC Snipers and triple-homicide felons to major international fugitives. They are the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, and they are the ultimate “manhunters”.

These guys are the real McCoy.  Recruits with the experience and exposure to present a true life experience in tracking genuine criminals. Watch the short sneak previews and Tune in tonight!

12/08 Amazing Race 2008 Final: Which Pair Is Worth A Million??

Tonight’s race came down to two couples. It could have gone either way. You have to watch the show to get the tension out of it, our narration couldn’t do it justice. Suffice it to say, Ken & Tina won, second place that is. Nick and Star took the purse. The Frat boys were never in the race.

It was very close with lead changes at every turn, and it kept us on edge throughout.

Congrats to Nick & Star. They took more first place finishes than any other team in Amazing Race history and to win the last race was only fitting. They deserved it.

You our dear readers are right again on this one! Thanks for participating on our poll. See you next season!

Obama Promised Change. The First Thing He Changed Was His Mind!

Apparently, today President-Elect Barack Obama backed away from his campaign promise to impose a windfall tax on the Oil Companies.  While we can appreciate his motivations with oil prices this low, it breaks from very basic tenets of his plans for alternative energy and a cleaner environment.  Once again, it is money driving the forces of change, not Obama.

This is exactly the type of concern explained clearly in this article about Obama’s campaign.

We will begin the list of failed campaign promises and retain them on our site.  Here is our first, and he didn’t even wait to actually become President.

1. Windfall Tax on Oil Companies abandoned.

11/30 Amazing Race, The Setup For the Grand Finale

The race last week had the Frat Boys finishing last.  Luckily for them, it was not an elimination round, but the bad news was they would have an extra task to execute (a speed bump) this week.  The first place team last week was Toni & Dallas so they got to start first.

Today’s race was through Moscow.  There were no planes, just taxis, trains and buses, which makes for a more exciting show.

First, they had to scramble for cabs to get to a submarine and find an actor that was in The Hunt for Red October.  Toni & Dallas broke out to the early lead, but by the time they made the submarine, Nick & Starr and Ken & Tina had caught up.  They were all basically neck and neck.

The Frat boys looked hopeless, well behind the pack.

They had to travel to a park and count statues to get a number, which, if correct, would get them their next clue.  The number of statues lined up with the page number of a book they would receive if they got the number right.  Each time they guessed wrong, they had to wait another ten minutes before they could guess again.

This was where Nick & Starr really took a nice lead.    They got the number correct right away and Nick found the book store pronto.  Dallas got to the book store second, but he was hopeless with the number.  Tina caught up and she didn’t have the number right either.  She eventually deduced the number and helped Dallas out even though he was on the other team.  Something Ken would scold her for later.

The Frat boys were still behind, but Dallas had lost a huge amount of time.  Still, the frat boys got a cab driver that didn’t know where he was going and took them to the wrong park.  They were really looking like toast.

Nick & Starr already got to the next park with a woman with a pony that had their clue.  They were so far out in front that only disaster could have prevented them from winning.

Dallas was now in third and looking to get back to his mother.  But then he made what could turn out to be a fatal blunder.  He had to take a cab back to meet his mother and left the passports and all their money in the cab.  They were left with no money and no passports.  They had to plead for help to get enough money to take the rides.  They also didn’t read the directions and took a train when they were supposed to take a cab to save money. That wasn’t the correct way to do things.  They were in third still, but the frat boys caught up.  Then another major blow, Dallas and Toni had to go back because they didn’t take a cab.  They would have to beg for more money and hope the speed bump the boys had to perform (a dance with a Russian dance troop) would keep them in the race.

At this point they had to take the subway or the bus to get across town and back. Only Nick & Starr chose the train.   We won’t get into too many details about the train and bus ride, but after it was done, due to jumping the wrong bus, Ken & Tina fell behind the Frat Boys, who had performed their speed bump and were in 2nd place.

Well, Nick & Starr were already finishing while the rest were still riding around on the buses.

The final leg wasn’t all that interesting, but the Frat Boys, despite the speed bump and being behind most of the race came in second.  Ken & Tina had a mild setback at the end, and had to run back and get a missed clue, but still managed third.

The lost money had been fatal to Dallas & his mom.  They didn’t even make the finish and were eliminated.

Next week is the finale.  Winner takes all!!
