Kimberley Locke Hosts "Gospel Dream"

American Idol Season 2 third place finisher Kimberley Locke is the new co-host of the Gospel Music Channel’s “Gospel Dream.” Going into its fourth season, “Gospel Dream” is a talent search show. Kimberley Locke joins fellow host Mike Kasem, and the judges for “Gospel Dream” include gospel artist J. Moss, Destiny’s Child member Michelle Williams, and industry executive Mitchell Solarek.

After competing on American Idol, Kimberley found success with her hit single, “8th World Wonder.” The song made it to the Top 10 on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary charts, and she has had three dance chart #1s. In addition, Kimberley has modeled, served as a spokesperson for Lane Bryant and Jenny Craig, and she appeared on VH1’s “Celebrity Fit Club.”

Kimberley is also active in many charities, including the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, YouthAIDS, the Davy Foundation, Camp Heartland, and Pink For A Cure.

Season 7 Alumni News

It has been a little over a year since Season 7 of American Idol aired, but the Season 7 finalists are busy these days.

Third place finalist Syesha Mercado has been cast as Deena Jones in the national touring company of “Dreamgirls.” The show will start at New York City’s Apollo Theater on Saturday, November 7, 2009, and it will run until Sunday, December 6, 2009. The show will then hit the road and stop at cities across the U.S. Syesha was an actress before appearing on American Idol, and now she’ll get to act and sing.

Brooke White finished in fifth place during Season 7. Since her time on Idol, Brooke has collaborated with Randy Jackson and is releasing an album on July 21. Brooke’s new single, “Radio Radio,” was released on iTunes last Wednesday. Read more about the upcoming album, here.

Season 7’s American Idol, David Cook, has accomplished something that only two solo males have on the Adult Top 40 charts. He joins John Mayer and Rob Thomas in collecting his third top 10 hit as “Come Back to Me” lifts from 11th to 10th on the chart. His Idol coronation song, “Time of My Life,” reached #7 on the chart, and “Light On” made its way to #4. Happy Birthday, Kellie Pickler!

Season 5 finalist Kellie Pickler won over the hearts of America as the small town girl who learned many new things as a contestant on American Idol. Kellie was a server on skates at the Sonic Drive-In before becoming an Idol finalist. With her touching backstory and big country voice, Kellie sailed through the competition to sixth place.

After American Idol, Kellie was signed by 19 Recordings/BNA Records. In 2006, Kellie released her first album, “Small Town Girl,” which included the hit single “Red High Heels.” Her music video for “Red High Heels” earned her a “Best Breakthrough Artist Video” nomination for the CMT Video Awards. Kellie performed “Red High Heels” during a Season 7 results show. “Small Town Girl” topped the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and reached No. 9 on the Billboard Top 200. The number of sales of “Small Town Girl” made Kellie the best selling new country solo artist of 2006. Her first record also gave her a nomination for “Top New Female Vocalist” for the 42nd Academy of Country Music Awards.

In 2008, Kellie released her sophomore album, “Kellie Pickler.” This album includes the single “Best Days of Your Life,” which Kellie wrote with Taylor Swift. Kellie performed “Best Days of Your Life” during an American Idol Season 8 results show. At this year’s CMA Awards, Kellie was nominated for “Best New Artist.”

Since April, Kellie opened for Taylor Swift’s “Fearless” tour, and just yesterday, Kellie kicked off her own tour.

Billy Mays Likely Died of Heart Attack, Medical Examiner Says

Television pitchman Billy Mays likely died in his sleep of a heart attack, a medical examiner said Monday.

Mays, whose wife found him dead Sunday morning at their home in Tampa, had hypertensive heart disease, Hillsborough County Medical Examiner Vernard Adams told reporters. Adams said more tests were needed to conclusively determine the cause of death.
