The whole world is still talking about Rebecca Black and how she ‘ruined’ Friday (?)

Is this the world’s way of escaping from what’s happening in Libya or Japan and elsewhere?

While we should not forget to keep in touch with the seriousness of world events, entertainment is here and looks like YouTube’s biggest internet sensation yet may be staying on for a bit.

Rebecca Black’s name has been the topic of conversations on Twitter, trending for five days straight now. In the Twitter world and its fast changing topics covering serious talks to the mundane, staying on the trending list for even a day is very, very hard to achieve or sustain.

So why the fuss?

We’re not really sure except the fascination that Rebecca must have had an epiphany when she wrote the lyrics to the song. It goes like this:

Yesterday was Thursday (Thursday), today it is Friday (Friday), we, we, we so excited, we so excited, we gonna have a ball today. Tomorrow is Saturday, and Sunday comes afterwards.

It really didn’t dawn on us until this song that after Saturday comes Sunday afterwards… So if not for the elementary lyrics, is it the repetitive beats, the visuals or the magic of auto-tuning? Why has this video garnered over 36 million hits in records time?!

Rebecca Black has gone on to be on morning and late night shows in the US. The song “Friday” is released as a single on March 14 on iTunes and believe it or not made it in the Top 20 bestsellers list when it hit the music store. It is now available on Amazon and currently on the Top 150 list. The song spawned a bunch of covers on YouTube and a variety of parodies from the absurd to the even more ridiculous.

Did she really ruin Friday for you? We say she’s winning!

We are the World 25th Anniversary Remake Video, Hope for Haiti

Recorded on February 1st, 2010, in the same studio as the original 25 years earlier (Henson Recording Studios, formerly A&M Recording Studios) “We Are The World 25 For Haiti”, in which Jones and Richie serve as executive producers and producers, was created in collaboration with executive producers Wyclef Jean, Randy Phillips and Peter Tortorici; producers Humberto Gattica and RedOne; and co-producers Rickey Minor, Mervyn Warren and Patti Austin to benefit the Haitian earthquake relief efforts and the rebuilding of Haiti.

Academy Award-winning writer-director Paul Haggis (Crash, Million Dollar Baby), whose own personal efforts as well as those of Artists for Peace and Justice have already saved countless lives in Haiti, filmed the private recording session to create the accompanying video and behind-the-scenes production, and serves as Film Director and as an Executive Producer with Jones, Richie, Jean, Phillips and Tortorici.

The 25th Anniversary recording features over 80 artists and performers. The recording of We Are The World 25 For Haiti embodied the same enthusiasm, sense of purpose and generosity as the original recording 25 years ago. Every one of the artists who participated, regardless of genre or generation, walked into the room with their hearts and souls completely open to coming together to help the people of Haiti.

Update on Knicks City Dancers Auditions, Meet the Top 30 Finalists!

The auditions are over. 30 dancers remain from 350, selected to move on to Knicks City Dancers Training Camp (July 7-9). From there, 17 dancers will be chosen for the team, and the 18th member will be left up to online voters to pick from among 5 finalists. Included in the Top 30 is Bronx native, Asia Nitollano, who won the reality TV show Pussycat Dolls Presents: The Search for the Next Doll back in 2007 and became the next member of the Pussycat Dolls.

Rumors spread that she wasn’t the best match for the group, and in fact, after she won she ditched the Pussycat Dolls to pursue her own solo career. After signing with The Inc. Records (formerly Murder Inc. Records), we still haven’t seen a single release… so what is going on? We guess her solo career wasn’t cutting it…
