Ready To Give Up On Life? What These Celebs Are Paying $800 For Will Certainly Help

On today’s episode of Everything is Terrible and Money’s the Worst, we present to you yet another celebrity atrocity.

When it comes to melting Amex cards, few do it better than the celebs we all love to resent with every fiber of our being. While we’re over here pinching pennies so that we don’t have to start eating cat food, they’re out living painfully lavish lives just ’cause.

Before we get into the thing that’s going to make you throw any hope you had left to the wind, let’s think for a moment about what someone could buy with, say, $800.

1. A new set of Goodyear tires with money to spare.

2. About 20 killer pairs of shoes from JustFab.com.

3. Roughly 645 boxes of dry pasta, because pasta will never leave you.

4. A 6.5-year subscription to Spotify.

5. A round-trip ticket from New York City to London.

6. A 2-year supply of paper towels.

7. An all-inclusive, 3-night getaway in the Bahamas.

But celebrities are over here like, “Forget all that. I need drop exorbitant amounts of money on something I could easily grab at Target.” Ladies and gentlemen, meet the infamous $800 sweatshirts by VÊTEMENTS.

Not everything produced by the brand, which is directed by Demna Gvasalia, is a complete and utter waste. In fact, the design house’s offbeat take on high fashion typically yields beautiful results. Even I must admit that this hoodie looked pretty fierce when it hit the runway.

Getty Images

But fierce enough for me to give up my half of the rent this month? Absolutely not. I think it’s safe to say, however, that these stars don’t see things the way I do. What’s up, Kanye?

Riri is apparently putting in the work it takes to wrap herself in $800 poly blend.

And if you ask Selena Gomez, there’s nothing better than turning a trip to the airport into a gross display of wealth!

Getty Images

Italian style darling Chiara Ferragni spits in the face of accessible fashion, because why relate to the millions of people who follow your blog, anyway?

Getty Images

Later that day, Kylie Jenner cried golden tears into her $30 açaí bowl on national television, because her struggle is “literally so real.”

Getty Images

Oh, and guess what. Both of these sweatshirts are completely sold out. Let that sink in.

(via The New York Post)

Am I bitter? Absolutely! Do I wish that I was in a financial position that made spending $800 on leisure clothes seem like a good idea? Yup. Sadly for me (and basically everyone else), that’s probably not in the cards. If you need me, I’ll be in the throes of an existential crisis or something.

The Real-Life Inspiration Behind James Bond Led A Fascinating Life Full Of Crime

Have you heard of the real-life inspiration behind the character James Bond?

Bond creator Ian Flemming gave the spy new life in 1953 after reading about a man named Sidney Reilly’s exploits. Reilly was a British spy in the early 1900s who was loyal to no one but himself. Sound familiar? Throughout his career, the “Ace of Spies” committed very real crimes, some of which are echoed the James Bond books and movies we all know and love.

1. Murdering a man on a train.

In 1895, train operators in Paris found a man dying inside a train car. He had been stabbed many times but regained consciousness long enough to say he had been robbed by two men. It later came out that he was a member of an illegal anarchist group. Reilly and an accomplice stole money from the anarchist and Reilly fled to the United Kingdom.

The Inside Of This Abandoned Asylum Is Just As Unsettling As You’d Expect

Most people wouldn’t feel comfortable wandering around an abandoned mental asylum. Horror movies have taught us that it’s never a good idea!

The photographer behind Freaktography, however, isn’t just anybody. He toes the line between totally creepy and hauntingly beautiful all the time. And this photo set from Buffalo, New York, is no exception…

Armed with nothing more than a camera, Freaktography ventured into the Buffalo State Asylum in New York. The facility had been abandoned since the mid-1970s.

The series of buildings is now considered a historic landmark known as the “Richardson Olmsted Complex.” There are plans to turn it into a resort and conference center, but renovations are far from over.

In fact, much of Buffalo State Asylum has been untouched for over 40 years.

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.defineSlot(‘/37886402/VN_PG_DCI1_BTF’, [300, 250], ‘VN_PG_DCI1_BTF_58097fa6544f8’).addService(googletag.pubads()) googletag.pubads().setTargeting(“NOVA_MB”, “VN_”); googletag.pubads().setTargeting(“NOVA_SC”, “VN_ORGN”); googletag.pubads().setTargeting(“NOVA_TS”, “TS_D”); googletag.pubads().setTargeting(“NOVA_AT”, “VN_ORGN_PG_D_REV_1.0_ASYNC_DEFAULT”); googletag.pubads().setTargeting(“NOVA_CC”, “VN_ORGN_D_UNK_118089_A”); googletag.pubads().setTargeting(“NOVA_PG”, “1”); googletag.enableServices(); googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCI1_BTF_58097fa6544f8’); });

As a result, dust, decay, and (most likely) rats have taken over.

At one time, patients were segregated by sex. Males lived on the east side of the facility, while females were located on the west.

There was also a children’s ward. A deteriorating picture of Lucy and Charlie Brown can still be seen on the walls.

Freaktography didn’t run across any ghosts or evil spirits, but he did find this unsettling skeleton.

He also explored the labyrinth of tunnels under the facility, which staff once used to move from place to place.

The hospital even had its very own barber shop. It’s wild to think that no one has sat in this chair for more than four decades.

There’s no telling when (or if) the facility will be fully renovated. Clearly, a ton of work would have to be done to get this place up and running again. Not to mention, there’s always the chance of stirring up angry spirits!

These photos are an incredible look at a space that most people would never see, but they are only a taste of what Freaktography has to offer.

What about you? Would you go wandering around an abandoned mental asylum? Let us know in the comments! Personally, I’ll stick to looking at the pictures.

He Gave His Daughter The Room Of Her Dreams By Hand-Painting An Epic Mural

Most little girls can rely on their dads for constant love and lots of entertainment.

I remember when I was a kid, my dad would chase me around the house roaring that he was the tickle monster. When he finally caught me, he would mercilessly tickle me, making me laugh until I cried. That memory is something I’ll always cherish, which I’m sure is exactly what this little girl will do after seeing the amazing thing her dad did for her.

When artist Adam Hargreaves’ daughter, Bobbie, complained that her room was too boring, he decided to repaint her walls. But when all was said and done, he had completely transformed her room into a Disney paradise that would make any little (or big) girl jealous.

My inner child is so jealous that I can’t take it anymore — is anyone else about to throw a fit, too? If you want to check out more of Hargreaves’ awesome art, you can find his Facebook page here.

5 Of The Most Disgusting Things People Do For Their ‘Health Benefits’

People tend to try some pretty unsavory things when they believe they’re good for them.

New mothers eating their own placentas after they give birth is one of the nastier ones that comes to mind, but there are much, much worse things that people ingest for the supposed health benefits attached.

Not only do people eat gross things for medicinal purposes, though, but they also put themselves through disgusting processes that may not even work. Here’s just a small sampling of the most nausea-inducing practices.

1. In Chinese culture, many people eat leeches, believing it will help treat strokes, high blood pressure, and bruises.

2. Tiger penis soup is an Asian dish that many cultures believe enhances male masculinity. It is also considered to be an aphrodisiac, improving sexual performance.

3. Ear candling is an alternative medical procedure that people use to remove wax buildup. One end of a candle is placed in the ear canal, while the other is lit, supposedly creating a vacuum that draws out impurities. The catch? This can cause injuries like burns and even perforation of the eardrum.

4. Some celebrities use urine therapy, or urotherapy, for a supposedly wide range of health benefits, including immunization against allergies and treatment of calluses. This involves rubbing your own urine on your skin or even drinking it. However, there is no scientific evidence that proves it is therapeutic.

5. Fecal microbiota transplant is the process of taking fecal material from one healthy person and introducing it to another patient by means of an enema, colonoscopy, or disgustingly enough, by mouth in the form of capsules containing the freeze-dried material.

This has actually been proven to be an effective treatment for people with Clostridium difficile infection, which causes diarrhea, fever, nausea, and abdominal pain. It is becoming more and more popular in North America and Europe.

Is anyone else skipping their next meal after reading that?

This Photographer Did A Father-Daughter Photoshoot…And It’s Entirely Creepy

Have you ever wondered would be like after the collapse of civilization? Personally, it’s something I try not to think about. However, urban explorer and photographer Freaktography isn’t like me. For his most recent series, Freaktography grabbed a pair of old-style gas masks and brought his daughter to an abandoned building.

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCBP_ATF’); });

There, the two attempted to imagine what life without all the trappings of modern civilization might look like.

“After a devastating nuclear fallout, this father and daughter waited three years before emerging from their underground fallout shelter only to find wide-scale destruction, carnage, and death.”

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCBM_BTF’); });

“Now it’s time to figure out where to start, scavenge for food, and learn how to live in the new post-apocalyptic world. Today, they navigate room to room searching for any belongings from life before the fallout. The little girl has already found her stuffed doll.”

“Still too unsafe to venture outside, our post-apocalyptic father and daughter are stuck inside. The only entertainment they have is each other and whatever items were left over. Dad discovered a heap of old newspapers. The edition he reads today ironically reads ‘Fresh Air Is Free,’ while the young girl becomes closer with her stuffed toy doll.”

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCI1_BTF’); });

“When you’re stuck in the same room all day after a nuclear fallout, there is only so much to do. The father and daughter, after scavenging what they could, were able to locate three cards, a white blanket, a stuffed doll, and a stale can of Budweiser.

 So they invented their own card game, anything to keep the girl’s mind off of what was really happening outside.”

“Despite the wide-scale destruction, regardless of the damage, death and shutdown of life as it had been known, life must go on.

The little girl will be taught just as she would have been in life before the fallout. She will learn history, she will learn to read and to write, she will learn survival skills, and she will learn science.

 It’s not known how many have survived, but this father knows that his little girl, having survived the fallout and three years in a shelter, is the key to the future and life carrying on in the new world.”

Animal Lovers Are REALLY Unhappy With This Celeb Fashion Trend

Every season, there’s some bizarre new celebrity fashion trend. We thought we’d seen it all — until Gucci released a pair of shoes that has animal rights activists everywhere hopping mad.

And when I say “hopping,” I mean it. Gucci showed off the shoes at Milan Fashion Week, and they’ve quickly become the must-have item for celebrities. What’s so bad about them, you ask?

The loafers are lined with fur — kangaroo fur, to be exact.

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCBM_BTF’); });

No one likes to think about a kangaroo dying for a pair of loafers, but that hasn’t stopped celebs from wearing them.

iStock

Dr. Daniel Ramp of the University of Technology Sydney told the Daily Mail that “using kangaroo fur to produce fashion footwear is exploitation, especially since populations are in decline. The killing of these animals is inhumane, there is collateral damage and kangaroo culling has a large social cost on the remaining families and their young. Kangaroos are not objects — they are highly intelligent social animals.”

British model Alexa Chung was spotted wearing them at Milan Fashion Week, as you can see below. Other fans of the footwear include Sienna Miller, Kendall Jenner, and Dakota Johnson.

…to Tom Hiddleston in a recent Gucci photo shoot, everyone seems to want in on this trend.

Personally, my feet are sweating just looking at them.

They’re also equipped with cameras at ankle level to give privacy while ensuring the resident hasn’t fallen.

You can even purchase a small lift for people with mobility issues.

There’s a virtual companion system that reminds the resident to take medicine and helps them play music, movies, and games.

The cottages also include a pressurized air system to keep airborne illnesses out.

The result is a place that seniors will love — and you will, too!

Giving everybody what they truly want, these “granny pods” cost $125,000. If you’re interested in picking one up for your parents, or if you just want to install an Airbnb place in your backyard, check them out here.
