A Million People Just Signed This Petition For A Heartbreaking Reason

There’s nothing quite like seeing a polar bear in its natural habitat. Sadly, that’s getting rarer and rarer due to habitat destruction and climate change.

For that reason (among others), more and more polar bears are finding themselves in zoos, totally out of their element.

If you’ve ever seen polar bears at the zoo, you’ve probably noticed how sad they look.

There are many pros and cons of keeping animals contained in zoos. And while some still try to create enclosures that feel real, one in China has been deemed the “saddest zoo in the world.”

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.defineSlot(‘/37886402/VN_PG_DCI1_BTF’, [300, 250], ‘VN_PG_DCI1_BTF_5812ba73e997a’).addService(googletag.pubads()) googletag.pubads().setTargeting(“NOVA_MB”, “VN_”); googletag.pubads().setTargeting(“NOVA_SC”, “VN_ORGN”); googletag.pubads().setTargeting(“NOVA_TS”, “TS_D”); googletag.pubads().setTargeting(“NOVA_AT”, “VN_ORGN_PG_D_REV_1.0_ASYNC_DEFAULT”); googletag.pubads().setTargeting(“NOVA_CC”, “VN_ORGN_D_UNK_118233_A”); googletag.pubads().setTargeting(“NOVA_PG”, “1”); googletag.enableServices(); googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCI1_BTF_5812ba73e997a’); });

Meet Pizza, one of two polar bears housed at the Grandview Mall Aquarium in Guangzhou, China.

Getty Images

The Grandview Mall Aquarium is housed on the sixth floor of one of the largest shopping centers in all of Asia and has come under harsh criticism from PETA and other animal activist groups.

While the zoo may bring joy to thousands of visitors each and every day, the animals themselves are exposed to horrible living conditions. Many of the animals housed at the aquarium are malnourished and weak. Some have even begun showing signs of zoochosis, which is a psychological condition zoo animals often have to deal with in captivity.

Here’s Pizza’s story.

This bear is losing its will to live and it’s truly tragic.

The two bears are being used and abused for amusement and are beginning to show signs of mental distress.

Getty Images

Pizza spends hours pacing back and forth daily, searching for any crack or crevice through which he can escape and begin to live out a meaningful life.

The team at Animals Asia has started a petition that is urging for the forceful shutdown of this multi-million dollar aquarium.

There are now over 1,000,000 signatures on the petition. Doncaster’s Yorkshire Wildlife Park in the U.K. has offered to take Pizza and many other animals to their 10-acre habitat park, but Chinese authorities refuse to let the animals leave China. More than 50 Chinese animal protection agencies have embraced the campaign and have sent countless letters to Zhu Xiaodan, the current governor of the Guangdong Province.

Throughout the campaign against the zoo, the general manager has firmly denied any mistreatment of the animals, specifically the housing of Pizza and the other polar bear.

6 Places You Could Easily Move To From The U.S. If You Just Can’t Cope Anymore

The 2016 presidential election has taken such a toll on millions of Americans on both sides. Many feel threatened, shocked, and unsafe in light of what’s unfolded over the last two days.

No matter which way you slice it, this nation is divided. Some want to bring about change at any cost, while others now fear for their rights. Many have even actively discussed fleeing the country on the basis of those fears. But moving is never easy, especially given the state of migration worldwide. National interest in moving to Canada was so high last night, in fact, that the Canadian immigration site crashed.

That being said, the process of emigrating to Canada is not an easy one. Canada might not be the best choice for relocation, but if you’re dead set on leaving the U.S., these six countries have made it incredibly easy for Americans to earn citizenship. The kicker is that they’re beautiful, too.

1. Sweden

Despite its high taxes and cost of living, a residential permit can be quickly obtained for as little as $117. The entire permit process can be completed online, cutting down on expensive postage costs and delays in acceptance notices. In 2014, Sweden had one of the largest residence permit acceptance rates in the world. More than 110,000 permits were issued that year.

2. Mexico

Mexico may just be the closest alternative to living in the U.S. For just $21 every six months, U.S. residents can obtain an FFM Visa, which can be renewed indefinitely. The one downside to these permits is that they are only good for those who do not wish to work in Mexico.

3. New Zealand

If the “Lord of the Rings” movies taught us anything, it’s how beautiful this country is. It also has a relatively simple immigration process. The country gives potential residents a variety of methods to help them achieve citizenship.

When applying for a visa, you must meet one of five criteria: reside in New Zealand for 184 days as a resident before applying to make that status permanent, have a tax residence status in the country, invest money into the New Zealand economy, own a business in the country, or simply establish a base in New Zealand for 41 days living with another permanent resident.

This Terrifying Deep-Sea Shark Really Earns Its Spooky Name

Sharks have been the nightmare of fishermen and beach-goers for ages.

When I picture a shark, it’s usually a great white or a hammerhead, because that’s what I’ve grown up seeing in movies and nature documentaries.

But lurking down in the deep sea is a truly terrifying creature that really lives up to its name: the goblin shark.

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCBM_BTF’); });

Between its pink skin, needle teeth, and retractable jaw, this thing has got all the makings of a monster.

Even though they’re found pretty much worldwide and have been around for 125 million years, goblin sharks are usually no threat to humans.

Because they live so far below the ocean’s surface, they rarely even interact with us. Instead, they prefer to eat small fish and crustaceans and mind their own business. They’re even called “lazy” and “sluggish” by scientists who study them.

When goblin sharks have been captured alive, they’ve only lived for a short time in aquariums before dying, so not much is known about their behavior or reproduction.

I wouldn’t get in a goblin shark’s way, though. This rare footage shows the shark’s jaw protruding as it bites the wetsuit-covered arm of a diver.

Yikes! As science advances, we can only hope to learn more about goblin sharks and all the other creepy creatures of the deep.

This Bright Flash Was Witnessed Overnight In Siberia — What Could It Be?

On Tuesday, October 25, a bright flash lit up the sky near Lake Baikal in Siberia, Russia.

The mysterious flying object has left many scratching their heads over what exactly it is. At first, people thought it was the ICBM RS-18 intercontinental ballistic missile launched by Vladamir Putin’s military in Orenburg, but that missile testing would have been seen much earlier in the day.

Some experts believe it is a man-made object, while others think it is a bolide, which is a large meteor that explodes in the atmosphere before it touches the ground. Either way, it must have been an incredible (and unsettling) sight for those who witnessed it.

Some are even saying that it may be a UFO. What do you think?

I’m inclined to believe that it probably was some kind of meteor, but who knows? I’m definitely no expert on the subject.

This News Doesn’t Bode Well For Avoiding An Asteroid In The Future

If you were around back in the late 1990s, you probably remember the brief love affair that America had with asteroid disaster films (“Deep Impact” was clearly the superior film). The movies brought an awareness to the general public of the possibility that Earth could be destroyed at any moment by a random, giant rock from space.

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCBP_ATF’); });

Luckily, we have the folks at NASA watching out for us and keeping an eye on the sky. With all their great technology, there’s no way an asteroid could possibly sneak up on us…right? Well, that’s where you’d be wrong.

This week, NASA researchers spotted and catalogued a rather large asteroid by the name of 2016 QA2. Barely hours after it was first spotted, QA2 zipped by Earth, at a distance even closer than our moon.

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCBM_BTF’); });

Luckily, in the case of QA2, even if it had struck Earth, the damage would have been minimal — at least compared to the kind portrayed in various Hollywood films.

Unfortunately, there are a ton of asteroids out there. Which makes it kind of an impossible task to spot and catalogue them all.

To protect Earth from further asteroid impacts, Congress tasked NASA with an ambitious goal to be able to detect 90 percent of all asteroids 450 feet in size or larger by 2020. Sadly, funding shortfalls have put a damper on accomplishing this on time.

Alright, now that is terrifying. Just another daily reminder that life on this little rocky planet of ours can end at any second for really any reason at all.

They Were Waiting For Takeoff When This Group Of Men Did The Coolest Thing

Delayed flights are the worst, unless a little in-flight entertainment comes along. Sadly, that’s a rarity.

Being trapped on a plane can be such a drag. You’re stuck in a cramped space, you’re probably next to an unhappy baby, and the impatience factor rises by the second. Things are considerably less awful, however, when people on board start getting creative. The talented gents in this video decided to use their skills to make everyone’s experience so much better!

I feel like flying would be exponentially less awful if this became a regular thing, don’t you? It’s always nice when people go out of their way to help others out in less-than-pleasant situations.

This Guy Just Built The Most Beautiful TV Wall For Under $200

TV stands work well to hold your electronics, but most of them aren’t really nice to look at.

My TV sits on top of my dresser, but I’ve always wished that I had the time to build an awesome wall mount instead. While that definitely isn’t going down anytime soon because of my epic laziness, this guy made it happen without even spending a ton of money.

Imgur user cwdobbins took the idea behind floating beds and used it to craft a seriously cool wall mount in his living room. The best part is that he did it all for under $200!

This space was transformed into entertainment heaven after he was through with it!

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCBM_BTF’); });

First, he bolted a piece of wood to the wall, creating a French cleat that would safely support the combined weight of the floating wall and TV.

Then he hammered and welded a steel frame together out of angle iron.

He wanted a cool backlight, so he installed LED strips onto the frame.

Next, he cut some wood boards to size and sanded them before staining each piece.

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCI1_BTF’); });

After applying some polyurethane finish, he got to work on screwing the boards into the frame.

When all the boards were attached, it was finally time to hang this beauty up.

It was too heavy for him to lift on his own, but his transmission jack turned out to be perfect for the job.

In order to keep his TV’s electronic accessories off of the floor, he welded more angle iron into the shape of a box.

Then he created a smaller mount for the case that would be directly attached to the wall.

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCI2_BTF’); });

Lag bolts assured that it would be nice and sturdy.

Then came the fun part — finally mounting the TV!

The only thing left to do was complete the electronics case, so the crafter cut shelving boards to enclose the box.

And for the front door of the box, he installed some hinges.

After staining all the pieces, he screwed that bad boy into the mount.

After plugging everything in, he was good to go!

Not only does he have an amazing TV wall now, but his living room looks so much classier!

I am so completely jealous of him.

Something tells me that cwdobbins is going to have a lot of trouble ever leaving that room. If you’re dying for your own floating TV wall, you can find the full instructions here.
